Questions & Answers
Question : What's the difference between trail-running shoes and running shoes?
I'm on a tight budget right now and the cheapest quality running shoes I came across were trail-running shoes. I usually run on cement, so would this be a bad investment?

Answer:
They can be heavier, more stable, have more aggressive tread, and usually have less cushioning. Some transition to roads better than others. Some incorporate quality waterproofing. Cement is the hardest surface on which you can run -- you'll often want more cushioning than the average trail shoe provides. When it comes to running shoes, it's more important to find the right shoe(s) for you than just the cheapest shoe in the short-term. If you have to buy other shoes, get injured, etc., what's the cheapest shoe right now will not still be the cheapest shoe in a month or two. I'd try to find the right shoe options for you while ignoring price a bit more, and then spend time shopping around, finding sales or coupons, older models, etc., if you need to.

Question : How long should I wear new running shoes before they're broken in enough to run a 5k?
I am running my first 5k in a few weeks and have been training in old running shoes. I want some new ones before the race, but am wondering how long I have to wear them before they're broken in enough. I know it probably depends on the shoe, but am wondering if there is a general rule of thumb.

Answer:
I remember the old days when running shoes needed 10 or 20 miles to loosen up. But nowadays, if the shoe fits, I never get blisters anymore. Also a 5k is pretty short, you'd have a hard time getting blisters anyway unless the shoes were a bad fit. So maybe one or two short runs should be enough.

Question : Do good running shoes really make a difference?
I started jogging and i was wondering what are the benefits of getting good quality running shoes? Do they really make a big difference? If so, what's the difference between wearing them and regular tennis shoes?

Answer:
So im basicly giving you all he advice i have lol have funn running Well they matter in Cross country BIG time!! because we don'tt run on solid courses, it's always better to have a sturdy light weight running shoe i go to Academy for my shoes and equipment. good store =] some tenis shoes wont have an arch which is good to have when your running =] Um all of my friends really like then Nike but its to heavy for me so i dont i go with a really light weight shoe with a good arch. One of my friends counld only find spikes that were light weight so shes been running on spike shoes with out the spikes she says its the best shes ever ran in. Umm if you like running you should deffinetly try Cross Country its a great sport. and later on in the season definitly try track. It will work on your speed and Cross country will work on your distance. Eat right!!! thats a big important thing. and always remember to drink water all day long before you run! Always have that water bottle in hand! Dehidration sucks! and remember KEEP RUNNING dont stop to walk. it ruins your training. keep going and have goals set to where your mind will be focused on that spot not focused on pain or thirst. uh thats it pretty much Keep Those Knees up! Lauren

Question : Can normal running shoes be used for cross country running?
I have a pair of women's nike running shoes and am going to join my school's cross country team in the fall. But I'm not sure if I have to get a pare of spikes for cross country of if I can just use my nike running shoes. Help please?

Answer:
If your Nike's are really light weight then they should be good...i would recommend against spikes...even though they are lightweight and flexable, crosscounty courses are sometimes set on concrete. annnd spikes on concrete is a no no.

Question : What are the best running shoes on the market?
I am trying to run along side or behind my daughter and son while they are in cross country. My question is what would be a good running shoe for me to purchase. I can't afford expensive shoes so please suggest something affordable.

Answer:
A lot of times it depends on the runner. I myself am kind of heavy (for a runner) and need lots of shock absorption. I found a great pair of Adidas at Costco and another pair at Fred Meyer. Only paid $35 per pair and they work great. I believe they were called the Adidas Super Cusion at Costco, and Mega Cusion at Fred Meyers. Sometimes Roadrunnersports has a good sale, but personally I like to try them on.

Question : running shoes?
what brand of running shoes are the best? what kind? Any tips for buying running shoes would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
Running shoes are a pretty individual decision, based on how you walk/run, what kind of mileage you do, and what kind of surface you'll run on most of the time. I went to a New Balance store for my most recent pair, and got great help for the sales person, who had me walk barefoot in the store so he could help me make the best decision. He also asked about how I was running now and what my intentions /goals were. In the city where I live, there's a similar store that has helpful sales clerks, but sells a wider variety of brands. A nearby town has a Fleet Feet store, and they do the same sort of thing, I hear. Fleet Feet stores are in a number of states, so maybe there's a store near you. Here's the URL: http://www.fleetfeet.com/

Question : What are good types of running shoes and what are the lightest type of running shoes?
I need to get some size 8 and half or 9 pair of running shoes i want to get some light ones but im not sure what ones to get.

Answer:
Pumas are reallllllllly light. it almost feels like you arent wearing shoes at all

Question : how to tell the difference between running and walking shoes?
i need someone to tell me the difference between walking shoes and running shoes so i dont get walking shoes, ineed running shoes but i dont know which ines there are because walking and running shoes both look the same to me. P.S. is it trie if any running shoes are below 80$ are they cr a*?

Answer:
Running shoes have more cushion on the bottom of the shoe and have different heel shapes. You can easily find great running shoes for under $80 if you know where to look. try this http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/product/product.jsp?id=ASW1230&prfc=8&sc=CX180009&PartnerName=Froogle or this http://yhst-50307495481249.stores.yahoo.net/mens-asics-gel-gt-2130-running-.html even this http://www.eastbay.com/catalog/productdetail.cfm?model_nbr=76346&sku=7040192&SID=8032&inceptor=1&cm_mmc=SEO-_-Feeds-_-Froogle-_-null

Question : Are good running shoes supposed to make your feet feel like they are sticking to the ground?
I bought a pair of saucony running shoes today and when I tried them out on pavement it felt like every time i lifted my feet it took some effort to un-stick them from the ground. I found this kind of annoying so I took them off and debating returning them. Is this what all good running shoes should feel like?

Answer:
How odd, Saucony are generally known to be some of the best shoes for running, although I never wore any, having instead had experience with Asics and Nike. If a running shoe is good you should, generally speaking, not notice it, that is it shouldn't be too heavy and it should ergonomically aid your running in a way that does not harm your joints, tendons and ligaments, and it sounds like this is not what this shoe is doing for you. If you feel the shoe is defective absolutely do take it back. But if you're not sure you may want to try to search for other user's experiences with that shoe, maybe the sole needs to be worn a little, but it does sound weird. It might also help to know what Saucony model you have purchased.

Question : How to donate running shoes to people in Africa?
I want to get other kids in my school involved with a program that would send old (but still usuable) running shoes to less fortunate kids in poor countries. Does anybody know of a really good program to send the shoes to?

Answer:
Search second sole on google and email the web guy for the website and see if you can mail the shoes to the store there. Hopefully you live close to Cleveland Ohio. If not sorry but at least you have an option. I just know this running store has a box for shoes for kids in Africa.
