Question : How long should I wear new running shoes before they're broken in enough to run a 5k?
I am running my first 5k in a few weeks and have been training in old running shoes. I want some new ones before the race, but am wondering how long I have to wear them before they're broken in enough. I know it probably depends on the shoe, but am wondering if there is a general rule of thumb.
Answer:
I remember the old days when running shoes needed 10 or 20 miles to loosen up. But nowadays, if the shoe fits, I never get blisters anymore.
Also a 5k is pretty short, you'd have a hard time getting blisters anyway unless the shoes were a bad fit.
So maybe one or two short runs should be enough.

Question : running shoes?
what brand of running shoes are the best? what kind? Any tips for buying running shoes would be greatly appreciated.
Answer:
Running shoes are a pretty individual decision, based on how you walk/run, what kind of mileage you do, and what kind of surface you'll run on most of the time.
I went to a New Balance store for my most recent pair, and got great help for the sales person, who had me walk barefoot in the store so he could help me make the best decision. He also asked about how I was running now and what my intentions /goals were.
In the city where I live, there's a similar store that has helpful sales clerks, but sells a wider variety of brands. A nearby town has a Fleet Feet store, and they do the same sort of thing, I hear. Fleet Feet stores are in a number of states, so maybe there's a store near you. Here's the URL: http://www.fleetfeet.com/

Question : What are good running shoes for beginners?
Are there good running shoes at a reasonable price? Also what type of socks do I use? Any help is appreciated!
Answer:
I agree on Asics or Brooks. I used to wear adidas and Nike, but I've been wearing Asics for the last 3-4 years and I just bought by first pair of Brooks this year...what a difference. Much more comfortable! The best thing to do is go to a running shoe store and have them analyze your foot...they will fit you in a shoe designed for your foot type.

Question : I want to open a running shoe store. Are there distributors who sell shoes only to retail stores?
I want to open a running shoe store. I will start as an oline retailer with the hope to open a neighborhood store soon. I am looking to buy shoes from 1 company who already has relationships with all of the running shoe stores. What companies do this. I've been searching on-line and cant find anything.
Answer:
contact a store in Jackson, Michigan called Step One. They have been in the exact business you are asking about. I don't have the phone number, but they probably have a web site. They are experts and have been in business for over 25 years.

Question : What type of running shoes would you recommend for a heavy person?
I pronate, and the guy at the runner store said that I need stability running shoes. I am also 6'4 220 with a low arch and big feet. What say you? Do i need stability or motion control. My current shoes are Nike Shox and they make my feet hurt very quickly.
Answer:
Try the Brooks Ghost or the Asics Gel Kayano. Both offer lots of cushion and support and are good if you over-pronate

Question : What are good mens running shoes to buy?
I run on pavement around my neighborhood. I try to do 3 miles a day. Maybe something with cushion/durability. What are some good mens running shoes?
Answer:
My favorite running shoes are Asics, just as everyone else said, but they are not for everyone. There are different types of shoes for different types of runners. It all depends on how you move your feet when you run: do you pronate (turn your foot inward) or supinate (roll your foot outward)? How heavy are you? How often do you run? Are you prone to injury? These are all things to consider when selecting the appropriate running shoe.
The best thing to do is to go to a nearby running specialty store. A worker there should talk with you and watch you run and can reccomend the right type of shoe for you. Good luck with your running.

Question : Can normal running shoes be used for cross country running?
I have a pair of women's nike running shoes and am going to join my school's cross country team in the fall. But I'm not sure if I have to get a pare of spikes for cross country of if I can just use my nike running shoes.
Help please?
Answer:
If your Nike's are really light weight then they should be good...i would recommend against spikes...even though they are lightweight and flexable, crosscounty courses are sometimes set on concrete. annnd spikes on concrete is a no no.

Question : What are some good running shoes that are cheap? And any tips on track running?
I'm looking for running shoes that aren't over $30. And any running tips that will help with endurance and gaining speed would be great!
Answer:
There are many good racing flats available for under $30, but be careful. Unless you are a very efficient runner used to running in minimal shoes you could be setting yourself up for an injury with them. Best bet - check out a local running store and have them recommend a shoe based on your footstrike. Most running stores will have shoes on clearance that they offer at deep discounts.

Question : What are the best running shoes on the market?
I am trying to run along side or behind my daughter and son while they are in cross country. My question is what would be a good running shoe for me to purchase. I can't afford expensive shoes so please suggest something affordable.
Answer:
A lot of times it depends on the runner. I myself am kind of heavy (for a runner) and need lots of shock absorption. I found a great pair of Adidas at Costco and another pair at Fred Meyer. Only paid $35 per pair and they work great. I believe they were called the Adidas Super Cusion at Costco, and Mega Cusion at Fred Meyers.
Sometimes Roadrunnersports has a good sale, but personally I like to try them on.
