Nice Watch

I've been a user of this watch since 93. It may not have all the latest and greatest functions, but what it does have is very useful.
Stopwatch with lap counter, a countdown feature, and two timezones. It's also waterproof up to 100 meters. The new watches have the indiglo thing, (mine had that tiny little lightbulb on the left that never quite lit up the whole screen).

On some watches I've seen, setting the time, alarm, etc, have been very frustrating, trying to find the right combination of buttons to change things. This watch is very simple. Hold the 'set' button for a couple seconds until it starts blinking, then cycle through with 'mode' All changes are instantaneous. All the buttons are labled too.

The only real beef I have is the watchband. The belt loop seems rather fragile. I've gone through several of these, and that little thing insists on breaking. Otherwise the watch is durable. I've lost count of all the times I've banged it hard against something, and it lived. The covering is all scraped up, and the buttons are starting to corrode after all these years, but the thing still works. That's far more than enough to make me a repeat customer.

At the time of this review, Amazon has these listed for $37.99 before the "discount". You can pick this up at Kmart or Walmart for $29

Good fitness watch

I got this watch at a PX for about $20. It seems to have gone up in price. I lose or break watches a lot so I need something that isn't too expensive (nothing above $40). I also work out a lot so I need a band that is plastic or something that can be washed off without having to dry it out (and metal just doesn't work). I hate bands that are leather or cloth because they begin to stink after working out in them for a while. I also need something that is tough and I don't like to spend more than a second to see what the time and date is. So analog hand watches are out and so are watches where you have to push a button in order to figure out what the day and month is. I also want a watch that has big characters because I wear glasses and sometims take them off when I workout because they fog up. Finally, it has to have a countdown timer, a chronograph, at least a couple of LOUD alarms, and at least two adjustable time zones because I am in the military and go overseas often. This watch fits all that, plus what really sets it apart is that it is extremely thin compared to most workout watches. That is a bigger advantage than you would think because having a thicker watch gets in the way of ropes and tight spaces. The only draw backs to this watch is that the band has broken on me before, and that it's face isn't more scratch resistant. But for the functionality and price, it's hard to beat.

Good features, hard to set

As noted, this watch has a very good set of features. The display is easy to read in all modes. The day and date appear on the time screen, which I think is a plus. The watch is set like most other Timexes, easily and intuitively. BUT the set buttons are very small, very hard, require a lot of pressure, and hurt to press.

Practically Bulletproof

If you're looking for a watch that can take tons of abuse and still keep perfect time, this is your watch.

No longer do you have to worry about setting the time when you travel or purchasing a battery because your watch won't run without it. Put it on your wrist and forget it.

Durable, well constructed, and accurate, this watch works as hard as you do.

First time G-Shock Owner

I purchased this watch on a Marine base in San Diego. The reason I had to purchase a watch was that my Timex Helix (which was supposed to be water resistant) fogged up after running a mile and a half. After getting in touch with Timex, I was told that it would cost $50 for them just to look at it. Forget that! I wanted a rugged watch and found the features on this watch exceptional. Atomic time setting is fantastic, it is within a second of my bedside atomic setting clock. Solar powered and never having to replace batteries is great. I travel alot and the World Time is a must. When using the World Time the watch lets you know what time it is back home. Yes, the buttons are hard to reach but maybe that helps in the protection. It is a small price to pay for the great features of this watch!

Big, Hard to Use, Easy to Read - A Study in Contradictions

First of all, it works, but it's almost like it has to learn where the radio tower is before it can set the time -- took several days before it began to receive a strong signal.

According to the mileage calculator at:
http://www.symsys.com/~ingram/mileage/index.php
I'm about 1200 miles from the transmitter as the crow flies. This could have been sun spots; who knows? After "training" the watch has updated every night as per claims.

It's a BIG watch. It doesn't look too big in the mirror, but it looks big to me when I look down. Also, my shirt cuffs won't pass over it.

If you have ever worked on your car with a digital watch on, you will know why the push buttons are protected on this watch. There is absolutely no way you can press a button accidentally. There is almost no way you can press one intentionally, as well. Whoever designed this watch had tiny fingers. I suspect that part of the klutziness is because the buttons protect a water proof seal in order to meet the depth rating claimed.

I keep a specially shaped thumb nail handy in case I want to push a button to find out something in addition to the time and date. This is unfortunate because the watch is full of special functions that could be useful if one could get at them easier. The functions are in reverse order of how I would use them. First comes time zone, then stored times, followed by alarms, then the timer. You can't use most of these without the manual, so the difficulty of pushing the buttons is almost irrelevant.

The blue color is a nice touch. The strap and case are what I would call "midnight blue" with just hints of powder blue around the silver colored bezel. The blue lends some class to a plastic covered watch, in my opinion.

A big plus is that the digital display is easy to read without reading glasses because of the BIG numbers. For this reason alone, I will keep it.

Superb hi-tech timepiece...

So far I have found this watch to be a great investment if you desire a blend of high tech, ruggedness and versatility. I have not expereinced any of the problems of some of the other reviewers.... Gov atomic clock time synchonization worked perfectly right out of the box, whether manually or on auto (perhaps reading the instruction's many caveats helped me avoid typical problems). The buttons are what you would expect as to firmness ...when you consider they have to be leak proof at 200 meters. No regrets at all here and if I were buying a tough, hyper-accurate sports watch, its what I'd buy again today.

Questions & Answers
Question : Are good running shoes supposed to make your feet feel like they are sticking to the ground?
I bought a pair of saucony running shoes today and when I tried them out on pavement it felt like every time i lifted my feet it took some effort to un-stick them from the ground. I found this kind of annoying so I took them off and debating returning them. Is this what all good running shoes should feel like?

Answer:
How odd, Saucony are generally known to be some of the best shoes for running, although I never wore any, having instead had experience with Asics and Nike. If a running shoe is good you should, generally speaking, not notice it, that is it shouldn't be too heavy and it should ergonomically aid your running in a way that does not harm your joints, tendons and ligaments, and it sounds like this is not what this shoe is doing for you. If you feel the shoe is defective absolutely do take it back. But if you're not sure you may want to try to search for other user's experiences with that shoe, maybe the sole needs to be worn a little, but it does sound weird. It might also help to know what Saucony model you have purchased.

Question : running shoes?
what brand of running shoes are the best? what kind? Any tips for buying running shoes would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
Running shoes are a pretty individual decision, based on how you walk/run, what kind of mileage you do, and what kind of surface you'll run on most of the time. I went to a New Balance store for my most recent pair, and got great help for the sales person, who had me walk barefoot in the store so he could help me make the best decision. He also asked about how I was running now and what my intentions /goals were. In the city where I live, there's a similar store that has helpful sales clerks, but sells a wider variety of brands. A nearby town has a Fleet Feet store, and they do the same sort of thing, I hear. Fleet Feet stores are in a number of states, so maybe there's a store near you. Here's the URL: http://www.fleetfeet.com/

Question : What are the best running shoes on the market?
I am trying to run along side or behind my daughter and son while they are in cross country. My question is what would be a good running shoe for me to purchase. I can't afford expensive shoes so please suggest something affordable.

Answer:
A lot of times it depends on the runner. I myself am kind of heavy (for a runner) and need lots of shock absorption. I found a great pair of Adidas at Costco and another pair at Fred Meyer. Only paid $35 per pair and they work great. I believe they were called the Adidas Super Cusion at Costco, and Mega Cusion at Fred Meyers. Sometimes Roadrunnersports has a good sale, but personally I like to try them on.

Question : What are the best running shoes that promote forefoot running?
I heard forefoot running is the best and most efficient way to run. I saw these Newton shoes which were $175. Any other good runing shoes?

Answer:
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Forefoot running is how humans are made to run. Period. Your knee is a shock absorber. Your ankle is a shock absorber. We've been babied into thinking that it's ok to heal strike - it's not. Heal striking sends a shockwave through your entire body and is the cause of most running injuries. Secondly, $80 is the minimum MSRP (retail price though you may get them cheaper at outlets) for a good running shoe. Anything under $80 full retail is crap. Running Times did a search a year or two ago of stores like Kohls and Target for a decent off-brand running shoe and found 1 that was just ok. Brooks makes some models, like the Glycerin, that have relatively small amounts of heal lift. Low heal lift makes forefoot running easier.

Question : Where is a good place to buy running shoes in Taipei, Taiwan?
I am running in the marathon at Tarko Gorge in November. I need to pick up another pair of running shoes, but I have no idea where to go. I've been in Taiwan for 2 months so I know where to get shoes at night markets etc., but I need quality running shoes. It would be nice if there was a shoe or running specific store. It would also be nice if the store has people that speak English and could fit me for quality running shoes. Price is really not an issue.

Answer:
If you are wear it for the competition, don't but it at night markets. You should buy it at department stores, sports wear store...etc. In Taipei, go to Gongguan (公館) very close to Taiwan university, there are some sports wear shops there, price are resonable, quality is also good. Every year from October in Taiwan, time for department store's on sale, buy everything ,they always has discount better than regular time. Shinkong Mitsukoshi, Sogo.... Go go go...

Question : how to tell the difference between running and walking shoes?
i need someone to tell me the difference between walking shoes and running shoes so i dont get walking shoes, ineed running shoes but i dont know which ines there are because walking and running shoes both look the same to me. P.S. is it trie if any running shoes are below 80$ are they cr a*?

Answer:
Running shoes have more cushion on the bottom of the shoe and have different heel shapes. You can easily find great running shoes for under $80 if you know where to look. try this http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/product/product.jsp?id=ASW1230&prfc=8&sc=CX180009&PartnerName=Froogle or this http://yhst-50307495481249.stores.yahoo.net/mens-asics-gel-gt-2130-running-.html even this http://www.eastbay.com/catalog/productdetail.cfm?model_nbr=76346&sku=7040192&SID=8032&inceptor=1&cm_mmc=SEO-_-Feeds-_-Froogle-_-null

Question : What are good mens running shoes to buy?
I run on pavement around my neighborhood. I try to do 3 miles a day. Maybe something with cushion/durability. What are some good mens running shoes?

Answer:
My favorite running shoes are Asics, just as everyone else said, but they are not for everyone. There are different types of shoes for different types of runners. It all depends on how you move your feet when you run: do you pronate (turn your foot inward) or supinate (roll your foot outward)? How heavy are you? How often do you run? Are you prone to injury? These are all things to consider when selecting the appropriate running shoe. The best thing to do is to go to a nearby running specialty store. A worker there should talk with you and watch you run and can reccomend the right type of shoe for you. Good luck with your running.

Question : How to i pick my running shoes and clothes?
How to i pick my running shoes so that that are best for me? I want them to be safe and comfortable. What should i look for? And how do i find good clothes to run in thatt are comfortable and good for running?

Answer:
http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-240-319-326-7152-0,00.html check out this link. it shows you what kind of arch you have, which means it is easier to pick the perfect shoe for you! If you need arch support, I pretty much suggest shoes from asics. they are very comfortable! if you are looking for clothing, then I suggest these for shorts:http://www.anacondasports.com/ProductDisplay/10551/10201/173434/173409/139411.htm hope it helped!

Question : What are good types of running shoes and what are the lightest type of running shoes?
I need to get some size 8 and half or 9 pair of running shoes i want to get some light ones but im not sure what ones to get.

Answer:
Pumas are reallllllllly light. it almost feels like you arent wearing shoes at all

Question : Will running in actual running shoes help me go faster and make running easier compared to basketball shoes?
Does running shoes compared to basketball shoes make running easier and make me go faster?

Answer:
they probably feel more comfortable when you are getting up and down the court, but basketball shoes are more supportive, have better grip (running shoes slide around way too much), more protection ( you don't want to risk a serious injury) and offer better side to side and lateral movement while running shoes offer better forward motion. If your basketball shoes are bothering you, you should buy more comfortable basketball shoes that are lightweight and flexible. If you don't like mids or highs that grip your ankle , you should buy lows because they offer better traction and support that ordinary running shoes don't have. Plus they are lighter than mids or high basketball shoes. Hope this helps!
